World Population Day 2025

As part of the observance of World Population Day 2025, the Department of Community Medicine at KVG Medical College organized a session aimed at raising awareness about global population issues and their public health implications. Dr. Dinesh P V, Professor and Head of the Department, served as the resource person.

Dr. Dinesh provided an in-depth exploration of this year’s theme — “Investing in People: Harnessing Population Trends for a Sustainable Future. He emphasized that population trends are not merely statistical observations, but powerful indicators that influence policies, health outcomes, and the sustainability of nations. He underlined the need to interpret these trends through a public health lens, particularly in the Indian context, where demographic changes carry significant socio-economic and healthcare implications.

Dr. Dinesh also spoke on the critical importance of ensuring universal access to reproductive health services, the need for gender-sensitive policies, and the role of community-based interventions in empowering individuals. He urged medical students and future healthcare professionals to be proactive in promoting sustainable development goals (SDGs) through evidence-based practices and community engagement.
