The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotism, enthusiasm, and national spirit at KVG Medical College & Hospital (KVGMCH), Sullia, on 15th August 2026. The celebration brought together the management, faculty, staff, and students to commemorate the historic occasion and honour the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who contributed to India’s independence.
The programme commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony by Dr. K. V. Chidananda Sir, President of AOLE and Medical Director, KVGMCH, in the presence of Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan Ma’am, Dean, KVGMCH. The ceremony was attended by the Principals of all sister institutions, Heads of Departments, faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students. The National Flag was proudly unfurled amidst the singing of the National Anthem, creating a solemn and patriotic atmosphere across the college premises.
Following the flag hoisting, Dr. K. V. Chidananda Sir addressed the gathering. In his Independence Day message, he highlighted the significance of freedom, unity, discipline, and responsibility towards the nation. He encouraged the students and staff to contribute positively to society through education, service, dedication, and ethical conduct. He also emphasized the important role of healthcare professionals in serving the community and building a healthier nation.
Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan Ma’am, Dean, KVGMCH, also addressed the gathering and conveyed her Independence Day wishes to everyone. She emphasized the importance of patriotism, professionalism, compassion, and social responsibility among students and healthcare professionals. She encouraged the students to uphold the values of the Constitution and become responsible citizens committed to the welfare of society.
The celebration was further enriched by a series of cultural programmes presented by the students. Students from various courses participated enthusiastically in patriotic songs, dances, and other cultural performances. The performances reflected the spirit of patriotism, unity in diversity, and love for the nation. The students’ enthusiastic participation added colour and vibrancy to the celebration.
As part of the “HarGharTiranga” initiative, the NSS volunteers of KVGMCH actively participated in promoting the message of national pride and respect for the National Flag. NSS volunteers distributed the National Flags to households in the surrounding community and encouraged residents to display the Tricolour with pride. This initiative helped strengthen the connection between the institution and the community while spreading the spirit of patriotism beyond the college campus.
An Independence Day procession was also organized as part of the celebrations. NSS volunteers, students, faculty members, and staff participated with enthusiasm, carrying the National Flag and raising patriotic slogans. The procession created awareness about the importance of Independence Day and conveyed the message of unity, patriotism, and social responsibility to the community.
The entire programme was conducted with active participation and cooperation from the students, faculty, staff, and NSS volunteers. The celebration successfully created a sense of national pride and reminded everyone of their responsibility towards the progress and development of the nation.
