NSS Day Celebration – 2025

The NSS Unit of KVG Medical College and Hospital, Sullia associated with NSS unit KVG Nursing Institutions, celebrated NSS Day with great enthusiasm and participation on 24th September 2025.

The programme commenced with the hoisting of the NSS flag by Dr. K.V. Chidananda, President of AOLE and Medical Director of KVG Medical College and Hospital, Sullia, in the presence of the Dean and other dignitaries. Following this, the NSS volunteers rendered the NSS song, and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp marked the formal beginning of the celebration.

In his address, Dr. K.V. Chidananda highlighted the objectives of NSS and the role of youth in community development and nation-building.Dr.Neelambikai Natarajan, Dean, KVGMCH, also addressed the gathering and appreciated the active involvement of NSS in institutional and community activities.

The invited guest, Mrs. Chithralekha K. S., Head of the Department of Sociology and NSS Programme Officer, Nehru Memorial College, Sullia, shared her valuable experiences of serving as an NSS Programme Officer since 2011. She has organized numerous community development programmes focusing on health awareness, environmental protection, and rural outreach. She is a member of the NSS Advisory Committee and recipient of the Mangalore University-Level Best NSS Programme Officer Award (2024) and the State-Level Best NSS Programme Officer Award (2025). In her talk, she emphasized the importance of selfless service and the transformative power of NSS in shaping responsible citizens.

Other dignitaries present on stage included Dr.Pramod K J, Principal, Nursing Sciences; Dr. Harold Maxim Lewis,professor and HOD Department of emergency medicine,Dr.Maneesh A., In charge Principal, Physiotherapy; and Mrs. Chandravathi, Principal, Nursing Institute.Dr Veena,senior resident department of OBG.

The formal programme began with the welcome address delivered by Ms. VidyaK., NSS Programme Officer, KVG Medical college and Hospital sullia, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Jimcy John, NSS Programme Officer, KVG Nursing Institutes. The programme was ably compered by NSS volunteer Siya.

As part of the cultural segment, NSS volunteers presented a role play on social awareness. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony for winners of the essay writing and poster-making competitions conducted earlier on the theme “Youth for Service, Service for Nation”.

The celebration continued with a rally through the nearby locality, spreading messages of service and social responsibility. Afterwards, the volunteers actively participated in a cleaning drive near the junction, demonstrating the true spirit of NSS. The programme concluded with a hospital visit, where fruits were distributed to patients, spreading smiles and compassion.

In addition, as part of NSS Day 2025 celebrations, the NSS Unit of KVG Medical College & Hospital had organized a blood donation camp on 22nd September 2025, where several NSS volunteers donated blood, reinforcing their commitment to community health.

The NSS Day Celebration at KVGMCH, Sullia, was a memorable event, reflecting the motto of NSS “Not Me, But You” and reinforcing the commitment of youth towards social service and nation-building.

Dean

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan is a alumna of Thanjavur Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree. She further pursued her MD in Physiology from Madras Medical College and an MBA in Hospital Administration from Alagappa University.

Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Natarajan has served in various capacities at several prominent institutions, including Madras Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Government Medical College Coimbatore, Government KAP Vishwanathan Medical College in Trichy, and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram. With over 20 years of administrative experience, she has held the position of Dean in multiple medical colleges for more than a decade. Her expertise in faculty training within medical education has earned her widespread recognition.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Natarajan has served as an assessor on the Medical Council of India (MCI) panel for over 15 years. She was also an Ex-Senate member of the MGR University and Secretary of the Ethics Committee. Dr. Natarajan has completed an Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME). Since 2019, she has been serving as the Dean at KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.
