World  Alzheimer’s  Day – 2025

World  Alzheimer’s  Day was observed at KVG Medical College & Hospital, Sullia by the Department of General Medicine on 23/9/2025 with the theme ‘Ask About Dementia, Ask About Alzheimer’s’, with active participation from students, faculty and staff. The program was presided by Dr. K.V.Chidanand , Medical Director KVGMCH  and chief guest Dr.Neelambikai  Natarajan, Dean KVG Medical college.

The program began with a warm welcome by Dr.Sarfaraz, Assistant Professor, Department of General Medicine , who highlighted the importance of spreading awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Dr. Prakash Rao, Professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine, delivered an informative presentation covering epidemiology, pathogenesis, risk factors, clinical features, biomarkers, and newly available treatments for Alzheimer’s, emphasizing this year’s theme to encourage open discussions about dementia.

An awareness video prepared by the Medicine Post Graduates was played which highlighted early symptoms , patients care and support for dementia. For under graduates a poster-making competition was held , Students participated in computation showcasing creativity and engagement in raising awareness about Alzheimer’s Day.  Then prizes were distributed to the winners.

The program ended with inspirational talks by Dr.Neelambikai  Natarajan, Dean, and Dr. K.V. Chidanand , Medical Director KVGMCH reinforcing the importance of community awareness, early intervention, and compassionate care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s.

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan is a alumna of Thanjavur Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree. She further pursued her MD in Physiology from Madras Medical College and an MBA in Hospital Administration from Alagappa University.

Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Natarajan has served in various capacities at several prominent institutions, including Madras Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Government Medical College Coimbatore, Government KAP Vishwanathan Medical College in Trichy, and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram. With over 20 years of administrative experience, she has held the position of Dean in multiple medical colleges for more than a decade. Her expertise in faculty training within medical education has earned her widespread recognition.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Natarajan has served as an assessor on the Medical Council of India (MCI) panel for over 15 years. She was also an Ex-Senate member of the MGR University and Secretary of the Ethics Committee. Dr. Natarajan has completed an Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME). Since 2019, she has been serving as the Dean at KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.
