On 21 November, 2025, KVG Medical College and Hospital and its sister institutions came together to celebrate the rich traditions and culture of Karnataka as “Kannada Kalarava”, the institute’s Kannada Rajyothsava celebration. The event was conducted in the college premises near the hospital entrance under the guidance of Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan, Dean, KVGMCH.
The event was presided over by Dr. K. V. Chidananda, President A.O.L.E and Medical Director, KVGMCH, with the guest of honour being Mrs. Shobha Chidananda, Vice President A.O.L.E. The chief guests for the event were Mr. Chandrashekhar Peralu, President of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Sullia and Dr. Shalini V. L, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Sullia Taluk Hospital.
The event started off with the hoisting of the national flag followed by the hoisting of the state flag by the assembled dignitaries. The tunes of the National and State anthem filled the hearts of those present with patriotic fervour. It was followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Veena N, Sr.Resident Department Of Obstetrics and Gynecology, KVGMCH.
The lighting of the ceremonial lamp was then carried out by the dignitaries to symbolize the dispelling of darkness by light. Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan, Dean, KVGMCH, delivered the inaugural address. The chief guest Mr. Chandrashekhar Peralu was then introduced onto the stage by Dr. Navya B.N., Professor Department Of Pathology. Mr. Peralu enlightened the gathering about the history of Kannada and the importance of preserving its cultural heritage. This was followed by the introduction of Dr. Shalini V. L. onto the stage by Dr. Anjali Rao K. Associate Professor, Department of Pathology. Dr. Shalini then educated the gathering about how they could contribute to taking forward the Kannada language and the role of students in upholding it.
Prizes were then distributed for the Poster making and poetry writing competitions which were held under the banner of this event, the winners for which were:
Poster making competition:
1st place: Ananya Shree R (Phase II MBBS)
2nd place: Pratyusha S (Phase III MBBS Part I)
3rd place: Uttam Nayak H (Phase III MBBS Part I)
Poetry writing competition:
1st place: Sanjana K (Phase III MBBS Part II)
2nd Place: Vijayalakshmi B. M. (II Year GNM Nursing)
3rd place: Sharath R K (Phase II MBBS)
The prize distribution was followed by Felicitation of the chief guests. The dignitaries on the dais provided them with a token of gratitude and appreciation. The Presidential address was delivered by Dr. K. V. Chidananda, who stressed on the importance of imbibing the Kannada language in our daily lives and encouraged the gathering to look up to the language and history with genuine interest.
The formal gathering was finally concluded by the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Karthik K, Joint Literary Secretary, Student Council. The gathered members participated in a rally, after which the cultural programme commenced.
The programme showed all the institutions of KVG Medical College and Hospital, including KVG Institute of Nursing and KVG Institute of Allied Health Sciences, along with the non-teaching departments coming together under one banner, with students and staff participating alike. It was a confluence of music, dance and poetry and provided a vibrant conclusion to the event.
