12th International Day of Yoga – 2026

The NSS Unit of KVG Medical College & Hospital, in association with KVG Medical College & Hospital and Sister Institutions, celebrated the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation.

As a part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations, yoga practice sessions were conducted for students for one week before Yoga Day. The sessions were led by Dr Srinivas K. Shenoy and his team from Alva’s College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Moodbidri, encouraging students to incorporate yoga into their daily lives for better physical and mental well-being.

The programme commenced with an invocation prayer by Mr Rakshith, First Year MBBS student. The Master of Ceremonies for the programme was Ms Vaibhavi, a Second Year MBBS student, who conducted the event smoothly.

The gathering was welcomed by Dr Shruthi Rai P, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, who highlighted the significance of the International Day of Yoga and welcomed the dignitaries and participants.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dr Neelambikai Natarajan, Dean, KVG Medical College & Hospital, who emphasised the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental health, and overall well-being among students and healthcare professionals.

The programme was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Dr Shashidhar Hasanadka, Medical Officer, Hasanadka Wellness Centre. In his address, he spoke about the role of yoga in disease prevention, stress management, and healthy ageing, motivating students to make yoga a regular part of their lifestyle.

Dr Srinivas K. Shenoy, BNYS, Alva’s College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Moodbidri, also addressed the gathering and explained the scientific benefits of yoga and its role in promoting holistic health. He further guided the participants through various yoga practices and emphasised the importance of consistency in yoga practice.

A special attraction of the programme was the Acro Yoga demonstration performed by students, which showcased flexibility, balance, coordination, and teamwork. The demonstration was well appreciated by the audience.

A special highlight of the programme was a thought-provoking poem recitation by Dr. Veena, which beautifully conveyed the importance of yoga, health, and inner harmony. Her inspiring presentation was well received and appreciated by the audience.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms Vidya K, NSS Programme Officer, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, organising committee members, faculty, staff, and students for making the programme a grand success.

The NSS volunteers actively supported the planning and execution of the event. Their dedication and teamwork contributed significantly to the smooth conduct and success of the programme. The celebration served as a valuable platform to promote awareness about yoga and inspire students to adopt a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan is a alumna of Thanjavur Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree. She further pursued her MD in Physiology from Madras Medical College and an MBA in Hospital Administration from Alagappa University.

Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Natarajan has served in various capacities at several prominent institutions, including Madras Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Government Medical College Coimbatore, Government KAP Vishwanathan Medical College in Trichy, and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram. With over 20 years of administrative experience, she has held the position of Dean in multiple medical colleges for more than a decade. Her expertise in faculty training within medical education has earned her widespread recognition.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Natarajan has served as an assessor on the Medical Council of India (MCI) panel for over 15 years. She was also an Ex-Senate member of the MGR University and Secretary of the Ethics Committee. Dr. Natarajan has completed an Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME). Since 2019, she has been serving as the Dean at KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.
