World No Tobacco Day – 2026

The Department of Respiratory Medicine, KVG Medical College & Hospital, observed World No Tobacco Day on 4th June 2026 to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of tobacco cessation.

The programme was compered by Dr. Anirudha K., Assistant Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine, and commenced with a prayer by Dr. Vaishnavi. The Dean addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need for continued efforts in tobacco control. An awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Sushmitha, highlighting the health consequences of tobacco use and the benefits of quitting.

The RCT Team presented an impactful skit conveying the ill effects of tobacco, followed by the Presidential Address by Dr K V Chidananda, President AOLE. Winners of the Reels-Making Competition conducted as part of the observance were felicitated during the programme.

A Tobacco-Free Pledge was administered by Dr. Preethiraj Ballal, Associate Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine. The programme concluded with an Awareness March to the KVG Statue in association with the NSS Unit of KVGMCH and KVG Institute of Nursing.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members, undergraduate and postgraduate students, nursing students, allied health sciences students, and NSS volunteers, reinforcing the collective commitment towards a tobacco-free society.

Dean

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan is a alumna of Thanjavur Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree. She further pursued her MD in Physiology from Madras Medical College and an MBA in Hospital Administration from Alagappa University.

Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Natarajan has served in various capacities at several prominent institutions, including Madras Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Government Medical College Coimbatore, Government KAP Vishwanathan Medical College in Trichy, and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram. With over 20 years of administrative experience, she has held the position of Dean in multiple medical colleges for more than a decade. Her expertise in faculty training within medical education has earned her widespread recognition.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Natarajan has served as an assessor on the Medical Council of India (MCI) panel for over 15 years. She was also an Ex-Senate member of the MGR University and Secretary of the Ethics Committee. Dr. Natarajan has completed an Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME). Since 2019, she has been serving as the Dean at KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.
