World Environment Day – 2026

The Eco Club and NSS Unit of KVG Medical College and Hospital, Sullia, organised the World Environment Day Celebration 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from students, faculty, and staff.

The programme commenced with the Master of Ceremonies, Ms Ameya, welcoming the gathering. The invocation was rendered by Mr Kripanidhi and Mr Rakshith, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Eco club secretaries Ms Malavika and Mr Niswan Nidle.

The event was inaugurated by the Dean, Dr Neelambikai Natarajan, who delivered the inaugural address highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices. The Chief Guest, Dr Shreesha Kumar M.K., Environmentalist, addressed the gathering and emphasised the collective responsibility of protecting the environment for future generations.

The programme was graced by the presence of Dr K. V. Chidananda, President, AOLE and Medical Director, KVG Medical College and Hospital, Mrs Shobha Chidananda, Vice President, Academy of Liberal Education (AOLE), Sullia, along with the Principals of all sister institutions, Heads of Departments, faculty members, staff, and students, whose presence added significance to the celebration.

A plantation drive was conducted under the theme “One Sapling for One Student”, encouraging students to actively contribute to environmental preservation. The participants enthusiastically planted saplings within the campus premises as a symbol of their commitment to a greener future.

Various cultural programmes focusing on environmental awareness were presented by the students, including mime and skit performances. To encourage creativity and environmental consciousness, Slogan Writing and Photography Competitions were organised. The winners were felicitated, and prizes were distributed during the programme.

As part of the celebrations, a bicycle rally was also conducted to promote eco-friendly transportation and create awareness about reducing carbon emissions.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr K. V. Chidananda, President, AOLE and Medical Director, KVG Medical College and Hospital. In his address, he highlighted the significance of World Environment Day and emphasised the need for collective efforts in conserving natural resources, protecting biodiversity, and adopting sustainable practices to ensure a healthier and greener future for generations to come.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr Anish, Eco Club Coordinator, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, participants, volunteers, and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the event.

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan is a alumna of Thanjavur Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree. She further pursued her MD in Physiology from Madras Medical College and an MBA in Hospital Administration from Alagappa University.

Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Natarajan has served in various capacities at several prominent institutions, including Madras Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Government Medical College Coimbatore, Government KAP Vishwanathan Medical College in Trichy, and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram. With over 20 years of administrative experience, she has held the position of Dean in multiple medical colleges for more than a decade. Her expertise in faculty training within medical education has earned her widespread recognition.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Natarajan has served as an assessor on the Medical Council of India (MCI) panel for over 15 years. She was also an Ex-Senate member of the MGR University and Secretary of the Ethics Committee. Dr. Natarajan has completed an Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME). Since 2019, she has been serving as the Dean at KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.
