Diabetes Mellitus Awareness and Sensitization Programme-2026

As part of the 25 Year Silver Jubilee Celebrations of KVG Medical College & Hospital, Sullia, the Department of Community Medicine, in association with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Sullia Branch, organized a Diabetes Mellitus Awareness and Sensitization Programme on 1 August 2026 at 11:00 AM at KVC Hall-2. The programme was organized for MBBS undergraduate students, postgraduate students, nursing students, allied health sciences students, and Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) students, with the objective of enhancing their knowledge and sensitizing them to the growing burden of diabetes mellitus and its prevention and management.

The session was conducted with the objective of creating awareness regarding diabetes mellitus, its prevention, early detection, and the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle practices. Dr. Apoorva Dore from department of community medicine addressed the gathering regarding the growing burden of diabetes and the need for regular health screening and appropriate management to prevent complications.

The resource person for the session was Dr. ShruthiBallal, Diabetologist, Big Medical Centre, Udupi. The session provided an opportunity for the participants to enhance their understanding of diabetes and its significance as a major public health concern. The interactive session also helped sensitize the participants towards the importance of healthy diet, physical activity, regular monitoring, and timely medical consultation and principles of health education and communication of awareness to the public regarding diabetes mellitus.

The event will be followed next week by diabetes awareness walkathon and screening camp.

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan

Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan is a alumna of Thanjavur Medical College, where she obtained her medical degree. She further pursued her MD in Physiology from Madras Medical College and an MBA in Hospital Administration from Alagappa University.

Throughout her academic medical career, Dr. Natarajan has served in various capacities at several prominent institutions, including Madras Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Government Medical College Coimbatore, Government KAP Vishwanathan Medical College in Trichy, and Meenakshi Medical College in Kanchipuram. With over 20 years of administrative experience, she has held the position of Dean in multiple medical colleges for more than a decade. Her expertise in faculty training within medical education has earned her widespread recognition.

In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Natarajan has served as an assessor on the Medical Council of India (MCI) panel for over 15 years. She was also an Ex-Senate member of the MGR University and Secretary of the Ethics Committee. Dr. Natarajan has completed an Advanced Course in Medical Education (ACME). Since 2019, she has been serving as the Dean at KVG Medical College and Hospital in Sullia.
