The Onam celebration of the KVG Group of Institutions was organised with great enthusiasm, grandeur, and festive spirit on 1st September 2026 at KVG Medical College and Hospital. The celebration brought together the management, dignitaries, principals, faculty, staff, and students of the KVG Group of Institutions to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and spirit of togetherness associated with Onam.
The festivities commenced at 9:30 AM with a grand and colourful Onam procession, which started from the KVG Statue. The procession was organised to warmly welcome Mahabali, accompanied by an artificial elephant and the dignitaries. The procession was filled with vibrant
traditional and artistic performances, including Thalam, Garuda, Chendamelam, Kavadi, and creatively presented gorillas and robots.
At 10:30 AM, the traditional pooja and Onam rituals were conducted in the presence of Dr.KV Chidananda, President and Medical Director KVG Medical college & Hospital , AOLE, Mrs. Shobha Chidananda, Vice President, AOLE; Arc Akshay KC, General Secretary; Dr. Neelambikai
Natarajan, Dean, KVG Medical College and Hospital; the Registrar; Principals of the sister institutions; Heads of Departments; faculty members; staff; and students. The rituals marked an auspicious beginning to the main celebrations.
Following the pooja and rituals, Onam wishes were conveyed by the dignitaries and institutional leaders. Dr. K V Chidananda, President, AOLE and Medical Director KVG Medical college & Hospital; Mrs. Shobha Chidananda, Vice President, AOLE, Arc Akshay KC, General Secretary; and Dr. Neelambikai Natarajan, Dean, KVG Medical College and Hospital, addressed the gathering and extended their warm Onam greetings to all members of the KVG family. Their messages highlighted the values of unity, harmony, togetherness, and the cultural significance of Onam.
The prize distribution for the Pookkalam Competition, conducted on 31st August, was held following the Onam wishes. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from various departments, with students showcasing their creativity and teamwork through beautiful floral designs. The winners were:
First Prize: Physiotherapy
Second Prize: Nursing Department Institute
Third Prize: Shared by MBBS and Allied Health Sciences (AHS)
The winners were appreciated for their creativity, teamwork, and enthusiastic participation in the Onam celebrations.
Following the prize distribution, an elegant Thiruvathira performance by the office staff was presented. The graceful traditional dance added a beautiful cultural touch to the celebration and reflected the rich traditions associated with Onam.
At 11:00 AM, the students presented a vibrant Thiruvathira performance, showcasing their coordination, enthusiasm, and appreciation of Kerala & traditional art forms. This was followed by an energetic Chendamelam performance and Garuda performance, which further enhanced the festive atmosphere.
At 12:00 noon, the much-awaited Onam Sadhya commenced at the Examination Hall, which also served as the venue for the cultural programmes. The traditional feast was attended by approximately 1,800 participants, including students, faculty, staff, and members of the KVG Group of Institutions. The Sadhya provided an opportunity for everyone to come together and enjoy the traditional flavours of Onam in a spirit of unity and fellowship.
Following the Sadhya, cultural programmes by various departments were conducted. The performances provided students and staff with an opportunity to showcase their talents through music, dance, and other entertaining presentations. The variety of performances kept the audience engaged and added vibrancy to the celebrations.
The celebrations continued into the afternoon with traditional and fun-filled games. At around 4:30 PM, the games commenced with great energy and enthusiasm. Students and staff actively participated in the various activities, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere and bringing the days celebrations to a memorable conclusion.
The Onam celebrations were further enriched by the events held on 31st August. A Pookkalam Competition was organised, in which students and various departments displayed their creativity through beautiful floral designs. The Onam theme, “KALHARA,” was also released as part of the celebrations. The theme provided a distinctive identity to the festivities and reflected the spirit of the occasion.
An energetic flash mob by students from various departments was also conducted, adding youthful enthusiasm and excitement to the celebrations.
